Buddynice (Godsons) Interview
Buddynice is a DJ/producer based in Pretoria, South Africa. After 4 years in the music industry, Buddynice has made a name for him self under the guidance of The Godfathers of Deep House SA and for his track selections and ability to energise the crowds.
How did you get into that to begin with?
Before i even started making music (producing) back in 2016, a friend of mine introduced me to The Godfathers Of Deep House SA's music. That's when I fell in love with their style. I was actually shocked that all those years i have been listening to music that did not have vibe with my soul or touch my emotions.
By 2017 I decided to start my music career, inspired by The Godfathers Of Deep House SA. I made hits that The Godfathers Of Deep House SA loved and played on their sets, I mean I did not even have more than 7 months in the music industry but my music was already being pushed by the best Djs in the world. It was more than a blessing to me, that's when I decided to send in few tracks to The Godfather (Masia Mashapa) and his response was "You are a Godson material" from that day my life changed.
The Godfathers Of Deep House SA played a big part in my music career and are still that part now, I joined the movement in 2018 (in December) it was a dream come true. I actually got to meet new people in the movement, worked with few. The Godfathers Of Deep House SA taught me a lot - Djing, how to promote yourself as an artist and few personal lessons.
Were you into house before that?
Yes I was. I used to listen to all types of house music such as gqom, afrohouse, commercial house and tribal. I was actually not a fan of deep house, I used to say it was too slow and boring until I was introduced to The Godfathers Of Deep House SA's music. That's when I started exploring all the artists in the deep house scene, funny how things changed. I got addicted to deep house music, which made me loose interest in other genres.

As we all know that The Godfathers Of Deep House SA are a leading brand in South Africa and around the world when it comes to deep house, it has been the best opportunity. I got to be heard by a lot of people and the nice part about it is that The Godfathers Of Deep House SA are international, they also have an online radio which has presence in 165 countries or more (around the world).
They gave me an intentional exposure which came with a lot of opportunities for me and this is what I like most about them, before working with them, they instil the concept of principles and 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey which actually builds a great character while shaping the talent. I know for a fact that The Godfathers Of Deep House SA are game changers, they are unique, they don't only teach about music but they incorporate music with advancement of technology.

Top Tips for people wanting to be a dj?
Djing is a big learning process and if you're ready to start you may feel a little overwhelmed by it all. Lots of people rush into it and get it all wrong, practice and prepare. Practice makes for much better Dj than a free form approach to the craft. Be flexible, as a professional Dj you don’t necessarily have to take requests and also identify your audience and and make sure you introduce new sounds to the crowded to vibe to and lastly, play what you love and enjoy the crowd will vibe too.
Best piece of advice anyone has given you on the journey so far?
Be your self, work with people you trust, listen to your instincts. These aren't platitudes but lessons that apply to all creative practices and they're easy to forget when you're hitting a brick wall with your work. Stop comparing yourself with others or losing sight of why you wanted to make music in the first place
